Introduction. Atopic dermatitis is a disease that affects the epidermis and dermis. It has a recurrent nature. A characteristic feature is the typical location of the changes, as well as extremely severe itching. The etiology of this disease is not fully understood. Atopic dermatitis is a disease that through unpleasant and annoying symptoms is very inconvenient and stressful, both for the ailing child and for his/her parents. Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate a level of knowledge and therapeutic activities carried out by the parents of children with atopic dermatitis. Material and methods. Material used for the study were responses to closed questions contained in the author’s survey interview. The study involved 55 parents of children suffering from atopic dermatitis. Results. Education, place of residence, economic status, and raising a child alone or with a partner, have a statistically significant impact on the level of parents’ knowledge. The age of parents, occurrence of atopy in the family, number of children and professional activity of parents do not have a statistically significant effect on the level of their knowledge. Conclusions. Parents with higher level of medical knowledge pay more attention to proper skin care and alleviate complications associated with the sick child’s treatment.
