DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.20883/pielpol.2018.29 Introduction. Perimenopause occurs around the age of 40 and is the initial period of climacteric. One of the most common climacteric complaints is the appearance of insomnia.
Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of insomnia associated with perimenopausal symptoms among German women.
Material and methods. A diagnostic survey was conducted using two questionnaires. The severity of menopausal symptoms was assessed using the Menopausal Rating Scale (MRS) and insomnia was assessed using the Regensburg Insomnia Scale (RIS).
Results. The obtained Spearman coefficient shows a moderate correlation between insomnia and psychological symptoms
(R = 0.41; p = 0.0005) and these are the symptoms that are most severe in the study group. The results also showed a low correlation between somatic symptoms and insomnia (R = 0.34;
p = 0.0046). There was no relationship between insomnia and urological symptoms.
Conclusions. The problem of insomnia depends on many factors. Our research has confirmed that psychological and somatic symptoms of menopause are associated with insomnia.
