Piel Pol. 2022;4(86):189–196. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.20883/pielpol.2022.18 In modern obstetrics, induction of labor, used between 37 and 42 weeks of pregnancy, is a fairly widespread medical procedure among pregnant women. As induction of labor is one of the most frequently performed procedures in obstetrics, and it is carried out using various and effective methods, it should be carefully analyzed. Labor induction is the emphatic induction of the contractile activity of the uterine muscle in order to bring about vaginal delivery. The use of this intervention results, among others, in the development of perinatology and, in particular, the methods of supervision over the welfare of the mother and the fetus. Prior to the induction of labor, the indications and contraindications for its use should be carefully considered. The maturity of the cervix is a prerequisite for successful labor induction. In its absence, pre-induction is necessary. In practice, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods are used. The aim of the study was to review the current methods and techniques used in labor induction.
Key words: induction, induction of labor, pre-induction.
