Introduction. Acute pancreatitis is characterized by the premature activation of pancreatic proenzymes. The condition encompasses a wide spectrum of changes, which vary in severity. The method of choice for the treatment of acute pancreatitis is conservative treatment. Initiation of treatment requires confirmation of organ changes through ultrasound and computed tomography examinations. Aim. The aim of the study was to present the management and nursing care of a patient hospitalized due to acute pancreatitis. Material and methods. This study describes a case of a 10 year old patient with acute necrotizing pancreatitis, multi-organ failure, obesity, and an identified spectrum of autism. Due to the ongoing pharmacotherapy and parenteral nutrition, monitoring included fluid balance, stool observations and the supply of diuretics. Conclusions. 1) In nursing care of a child with acute pancreatitis, it is crucial to monitor the health condition, participate in diagnostics and prevent complications, 2). During clinical stabilization, it is important to start educating the child’s parents/guardians on further glycemic control, care of the tracheostomy tube and the patient’s diet, which will be continued after hospitalization, 3) In the case of a child with autism spectrum disorder, the presence and good cooperation of parents with the child and the therapeutic team are particularly important. 4) Lack or insufficient knowledge of parents/guardians about caring for a child with autism may contribute to the development of serious health disorders in the child.
