Introduction. Pulmonary embolism is characterized by the sudden blockage of the pulmonary artery or its branches, most commonly caused by blood clots, and less frequently by air, amniotic fluid, or fat tissue. Diagnosis primarily relies on imaging methods. Pulmonary embolism occurrence in the pediatric population is exceedingly rare. Aim. The paper aims to present a nursing care plan for a 15-year-old patient diagnosed with massive pulmonary embolism. Material and methods. The patient’s critical condition upon admission to the cardiology ward, marked by persistent tachycardia, tachypnea, and hypotension, necessitated urgent intervention. After two cardiac arrests, the patient was qualified for extracorporeal pulmonary thrombectomy. A case analysis was undertaken utilizing data derived from comprehensive physical examinations, diagnostic test findings, and detailed medical records. Conclusions. 1) Nursing care for pediatric patients with pulmonary embolism emphasizes monitoring health status, preventing treatment complications, and contributing to diagnosis. 2) Collaboration of an interdisciplinary team is indispensable during nursing care for a patient with pulmonary embolism, given the complexity of the condition. 3) Education of the patient’s parents regarding care procedures is pivotal for ensuring ongoing quality care.
